2024 Crosstrek Revealed at the Chicago Auto Show
One of the stars at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show, particularly to us at Twin Falls Subaru, was the reveal of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. The new Crosstrek was unveiled inside Subaru’s National Parks-themed amidst stunning National Parks vistas in the background. Competing for attention was an adjacent space where attendees could interact with rescue puppies available for adoption. As two of the major charities part of the Subaru Love Promise program, the imagery and puppies highlighted the National Parks Foundation and the ASPCA.
A main attraction was the 2024 Crosstrek. This being the 3rd generation of the Crosstrek, which first came on the scene 12 years prior and quickly became one of the fastest-selling vehicles in Subaru of America history, with more than a million Crosstreks being sold, with 2022 being its best year yet.
Like its predecessors, this latest Crosstrek is based on the Impreza yet enhanced with higher ground clearance and additional off-pavement-focused features. The success of the Crosstrek can be attributed to its ample passenger and cargo space, an extensive list of standard and available features, versatility, and capability: all in a compact SUV at a competitive price.
Updated Familiar Exterior
Exhibiting the latest Subaru design language, the 2024 Crosstrek, with a large hexagon grille flanked by low-profile LED headlights, and bold round fog lights on the front. From a standard three-quarter view, the Crosstrek shows off a more sculptural body, with a broad-shouldered stance. Black wheel arch cladding and rocker panels provide a strong contrast to the body color.
The new model features several functional aerodynamic improvements the eye can barely see but enhance the SUV’s performance and stability. At the trailing edge of the front wheel opening, an air outlet allows air to exit from the wheel well which helps reduce lift on the front tires for improved driving stability. Additional air outlets on each side of the rear bumper relieve air trapped behind the bumper for reduced body sway.
Completely unseen is that the body structure is now 10% more sturdy for improved ride and handling.
Now Built in the U.S.
Base and Premium models come with the existing 152 hp 2.0-liter boxer 4-cyl. Sport and Limited trims are powered by the 182 horsepower 2.5-liter boxer 4-cyl.,with torque bumped up a bit from 176 to 178 lb-ft. With the larger engine comes an upgrade from 17” to 18” wheels. Both engines use the CVT automatic transmission in all models. Sport and Limited models will be built in the US at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. in Lafayette, Indiana. These will be the first Crosstrek models built in the U.S.
Also new for the Sport and Limited trims is the upgrade to dual-function X-MODE with an added model for mud and deep snow, perfect for our Idaho terrain. All Crosstreks continue to have 8.7 inches of ground clearance which is the same as seen in Forester and Outback.
Enhanced Infotainment System
Introducing a superbly redesigned dash including an 11.6-inch SUBARU STARLINK® multimedia system for the Premium, Sport, and Limited Trims. These models also provide wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Front seats also have been redesigned for more support, improving overall comfort and reducing fatigue. Subaru designers also focused attention on reducing particular frequency ranges for a quieter and more comfortable cabin.
Improved EyeSight®
The award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is standard across the model line, enhanced to operate quicker, more smoothly, and under a greater range of conditions. Cameras provide a wider field of view, an updated control software, and electric brake booster integrated within the system. EyeSight® ensures a quicker response to identify bicycles and pedestrians at intersections, in which case it alerts the driver, and applies braking if necessary to help avoid collisions.
Additionally available is Reverse Automatic Braking and Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert to help keep the driver aware of what’s behind them. Automatic Emergency Steering integrates with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, EyeSight, and Blind-Spot Detection enabling steering control when needed to avoid collision within a lane at speeds less than 50 mph.
