Driving the 2025 Subaru Outback Touring XT
Did you know that the Subaru Outback turned 30 years old this year? Our versatile vehicle has been a favorite of yours since day one. It started out as a wagon version of the Legacy with added side and bumper protection, a taller ground clearance, and a go-anywhere attitude that you embraced over these years. We wanted to celebrate the Outback’s 30 years as our active vehicle icon. We had a 2025 Outback Touring XT available to us to see where it could lead us.
In 2023, the Outback undertook an update that included a bold front end with an enlarged grille. We love it! It gives the Outback a personality to fit its purpose. From the number of new Outbacks on the road, it appears that you love it, too!
We always appreciated the Outback’s design. It is tall, but not as tall as many SUVs. It also has a ground clearance of 8.7 inches, which gives the Outback more room to avoid obstacles. Up to five passengers have excellent access to the cabin and up to 75.6 cubic feet of anything we wanted to load up from the liftgate.
Why the Touring XT? We admit to having a bit more power underneath the hood. Not that our lineup of naturally aspirated BOXER engines was insufficient – they do an excellent job of powering our entire Subaru lineup. It’s just that someone was an enthusiast and loved their WRXs. The Outback with the turbocharged 2.4-liter BOXER engine adds the power you need to get through some tough maneuvers. Not to mention the ability to tow up to 3,500 pounds. That’s where we utilized the 277 pound-feet of torque and the extra boost from this engine.
When the weather changes, you need all the help you can get. We found that having the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and X-MODE gave our Outback the advantage we needed to safely handle the winter conditions we see every year. It does so without fail.
One thing we loved about the Outback Touring XT is how spoiled we became after every drive. With heated seats, steering wheel, and an automatic climate control, we stayed warm as we nestled into the Nappa Leather seats. Four of us were comfortable as we tooled around Southern Idaho.
We were thoroughly entertained by the 11.6-inch STARLINK infotainment screen and all of the entertainment options it provided. Smartphone connectivity is quick and easy. It responded to every command we gave it by voice and touch. We also recommend the 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system. Play your favorite music file, sit back, and groove.
No discussion about the 2025 Outback is complete without mentioning the EyeSight Driver Assistance Technology system. It enables many driver assistance features that are designed to keep you, your passengers, and your Outback on the road. It is worth trying out when you look at the Outback or any Subaru equipped with this life-saving technology.
We cannot say how much we truly love the 2025 Outback. In particular, the Touring XT. It is one of ten Outback trim levels, including the go-anywhere Wilderness model, which means that there is a 2025 Outback for you.
