A Seven-Year Strategy for Sustainability

The automotive industry takes a big step towards cleaner energy this year with the reveal of the most recent objective at Subaru. Committed to making a positive impact on the planet, we’ve launched a seven-year electric vehicle strategy. Subaru is setting ambitious goals to reduce our carbon footprint and promote environmental conservation by investing in electric vehicles (EVs) and other eco-friendly technologies.
Transitioning for the Better
Through the process of the next seven years, we are working to build an adaptable system that can ensure the efficient production of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) as needed during the transition to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). Subaru plan to start in-house production of BEVs by 2025 and steadily increase the number produced through each year of the plan. By 2030, we aim to have Hybrid electric models or fully electric BEVs account for 40% of our global sales.
Beginning the Integration

The preparations for in-house BEV production will start by focusing on mixed production at Subaru plants in Japan, beginning with the Yajima plant. The larger goal is to have dedicated BEV production lines on or after 2027 in the Oizumi plant. The first tangible step in the Subaru battery-electric vehicle plan is the 2023 Solterra EV, the template for BEVs that will follow. The Solterra will come with all-wheel-drive all-weather performance, vehicle balance in severe conditions, top safety scores, and of course, intends to be a complete blast to drive.
Improving Environmental Performance

Following the Solterra, Subaru will be enhancing more of our lineup by integrating gasoline engines with electrification technology and improving fuel efficiency through technological advancements. At present, we’re working to improve environmental performance in the new Forester and Outback models through the combination of our four-cylinder 1.8 L direct injection turbo Boxer engine and hybrid technology. This engine generates high torque at low RPM, and its lean combustion technology produces more energy with less fuel. Through our enhancements, we want to bring you the most powerful acceleration yet and superb fuel efficiency so that working with mother nature doesn’t mean sacrificing a premier driving experience.
Doing Our Part
Finding a sustainable method of production and implementing it will mean more for the future as we aspire to electrify our line-up. At Twin Falls Subaru, we want to achieve the highest good for all and hope to do so as we partake in the revolution for clean energy. We want to bring you the best and most sustainable experiences and look forward with much excitement to all that we have in store.
