Autoblog Updates Their Long-Term WRX
The Subaru WRX is one of the more legendary sports cars, especially when it comes to modifying it to your personal preferences. While the stock car is excellent from the factory, some buyers like to have a more unique vehicle to their taste. Whether that be exhaust, wheels, spoilers, racing seats, and so much more, the WRX allows you, the owner, to make the exact car that will fit your personality.

The WRX Is Made To Be Modded
With the long-term 2023 Subaru WRX Limited, Autoblog.com upgraded its car with the help of the Subaru parts department. Byron Hurd, the main author behind the long-term WRX, has praised the WRX many times. Even when reviewing it against the more limited production WRX TR, he said, “I just wrapped a six-week stint in this long-term 2023 WRX and thoroughly enjoyed it … this is the kind of do-anything fun car that makes being an enthusiast less of a pain in mixed climates without giving up too much performance. And let’s face it, affordable performance cars are a dying breed. The Volkswagen GTI/GLI, Hyundai Elantra N and Honda Civic Si are all great sport compacts, but it’s difficult to beat the WRX’s all-around appeal at its base price ($33,855).”

No Place Like The Subaru Parts Department
Once it came time to upgrade, Autoblog went straight to the source: their local Subaru dealer’s parts department. Why? Because it is the best and easiest way to get quality parts that are certified and warrantied by Subaru. For their WRX, they picked up STI mufflers, an STI front strut brace, and a short-shift kit.

How’s It Sound?
After upgrading the exhaust, Mr. Hurd said, “There’s quite a bit more bass in the STI mufflers than there is in the stock setup. It’s quite a bit boomier inside the cabin as a result, but I’m pleased to report that it’s not exacerbated by drone at highway speeds. You notice it a lot more around town than you do during a steady-state cruise. That’s a win.”

How Does It Feel?
The strut tower brace and short-shift kit are a little more complicated to describe without actually testing the car for one’s self. However, Autoblog said, “The stock shifter never really bothered me, and the short-throw upgrade is subtle, but pronounced enough that it threw off my timing the first time I drove it. The strut tower brace provides a better visual than the buried linkage of the shifter, but it’s going to require some real back-road seat time to accurately assess.”
