Consumer Reports Loves The Forester Hybrid
The all-new Subaru Forester was released for 2025 and absolutely wowed everyone who saw it and drove it. Not only did it bring new styling and features over the previous generation, but it also felt more grown-up to some reviewers and owners. Now, with the release of the Forester Hybrid, everyone is raving over how refined, quiet, and good it is.

The New Consumer Reports Forester Hybrid
Consumer Reports recently purchased its own Forester Hybrid in Premium trim for $37,956, a relative bargain for the fuel economy, cargo space, and driving pleasure. Some of the Premium’s standard features that CR highlighted are a power rear liftgate, wireless phone charger, heated seats, and a “big sunroof”. The Hybrid they bought has only five options: a trailer hitch and harness ($699), body side molding ($335), door scuff protector ($178), all-weather floor mats ($156), and a rear bumper cover ($173).

What Consumer Reports Says About the New Forester Hybrid
Mike Quincy, Content Specialist for Consumer Reports, said of the Forester Hybrid, “Certainly the Hybrid is more pleasant than the regular Forester. It is quieter … also feels a touch quicker. And being that it’s a hybrid, if you use a very light throttle, say, anything under about 20 mph, you can kind of scoot along on all-electric power, which is really handy in city driving.”
Engine and Battery Power
The 2025 Forester Hybrid has a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder and a 1.1-kWh battery pack that produces a combined 194 horsepower, 14 horsepower more than the standard Forester. The engine is mated to an electric continuously variable transmission (eCVT) and, like every other Subaru outside of the BRZ, Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard.

Fuel Efficiency
The EPA estimates that the Forester Hybrid will achieve 35 mpg in the city, 34 on the highway, with 35 mpg combined. This is quite an increase over the standard car’s 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway with 29 mpg combined. Like any other hybrid, city driving is where you’ll notice the most significant jump in fuel efficiency. Unlike most hybrid models sold, Subaru decided to keep the same size 16.6-gallon fuel tank between the Forester and Forester Hybrid, which Subaru estimates will give you 581 miles of range in the Hybrid. For something so comfortable and quiet, as Consumer Reports reported, this small SUV is possibly the best new car for anyone to buy.

Still Able to Travel Off-Road
One thing that CR appreciates about the new Forester Hybrid is the fact that Subaru didn’t sacrifice its ground clearance or off-road abilities, giving owners a jack of all trades type of vehicle that can be great for camping or cruising down the highway.
Safety Is Vital
Because safety is really the most important part of buying any car, the Subaru Forester was already very safe, with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) giving the Forester the Top Safety Pick honor. The Forester Hybrid loses none of that safety, and CR noted that Subaru made the cabin feel very open. The a-pillar is not too wide, making it easy to see all around, and the seating position has you up high enough to easily see over the hood. They called it “the benchmark of the class.”
