How Many German Shepherds Fit In a Subaru Outback?

OK, so that is not exactly on Twin Falls Subaru’s list of the most frequently asked questions about the Outback or any of our models. However, it is the first question that comes to mind when viewing a viral video showing a seemingly endless number of hounds happily crowded into the back of a recent model Outback.

A dog breeder in Danbury, New Hampshire, opened up her Outback to air it out on a warm day, and the German shepherds, all of which looked full-grown, just started piling in on their own. The rear seats were down, leaving plenty of room for the dogs to just keep coming. You can see six lined up at the tailgate opening, but clearly, more are behind them. The breeder made several attempts to count them, but the dogs weren’t exactly still. Finally, as she encouraged them to jump out, she got an accurate count of ten.

Obviously, this isn’t a metric you can easily compare against rival crossover models, but we hazard to guess that it will be difficult to match. Because the Outback has station wagon proportions, its cargo area is long and low, whereas other crossovers are short and high. Consequently, while other models may list similar cargo volume cubic feet figures, the Outback’s may be more conveniently proportioned. None of those German shepherds were stacked on top of each other, and if you prefer to load your cargo next to each other rather than make tall stacks, you can see the Outback’s inherent advantage. This may apply even more so when the second-row seat is up.

Another aspect that can’t be ignored in this video is that no other manufacturer supports pet ownership more than Subaru. “Subaru Loves Pets” is one of the five focused areas of the Subaru Love Promise, which donates a portion of every new car purchase to the owner’s choice of several nationwide and local charities as well as other charitable work engaged by employees of both Subaru and its dealers like us. In fact, Twin Falls Subaru is a proud recipient of The Love Promise’s 2024 Community Commitment Award.

The six facets of the Subaru Love Promise include:

  • Subaru Loves Pets – Pet health and adoption
  • Subaru Love the Earth – The environment
  • Subaru Loves Learning – Supporting local schools and other education programs
  • Subaru Loves to Care – Healthcare support
  • Subaru Loves to Help – Local community priorities

For the pets aspect, Subaru has donated over $51 million to the ASPCA and animal shelters near dealerships. It has promoted multiple pet adoption drives, even bringing adoptable puppies to auto shows and other Subaru events. Subaru also has one of the most extensive selections of pet-oriented vehicle accessories, which makes it more convenient to bring your pet or pets with you. No wonder the German shepherds like that Outback.

Perhaps you don’t have ten travel-happy German shepherds at home. You might not have any pets at all, but if you want one of the most popular, capable, and safe crossovers with a record level of customer loyalty, come to Twin Falls Subaru and check out the Outback and the rest of Subaru’s crossover lineup.
