​​How Much Fun Can You Have in a 2026 Subaru Impreza RS?​ 

Some of us like to stand out in a crowd. Others just want to blend in. What about those who are authentically and unapologetically themselves? So is an automobile that is precisely that.  

That’s what The Drive took away in a recent review of the 2026 Subaru Impreza RS. Our compact all-wheel drive hatchback simply refuses to be anything but itself. And it is quite affordable!  

They began by stating that “[t]he Impreza proposition is a simple one: take a fairly basic economy hatchback, give it standard all-wheel drive, and, well, that’s basically it. But if you’re feeling frisky, you can step up to the 2026 Subaru Impreza RS, and inject some pep into your commute courtesy of its 180 horsepower.” 

Every 2026 Impreza RS is powered by the 180-horsepower 2.5-liter BOXER four-cylinder engine. That power is sent to the standard Symmetrical all-wheel drive system through the Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. Fuel economy-wise, the 2026 Impreza RS is rated at 26 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway.  

The Drive observed, “that [BOXER engine and Symmetrical all-wheel drive] configuration also affords the Impreza an enviably low center of gravity. The way the RS noses into a turn is unique among its peers, and I suspect this allows Subaru to tune the suspension a bit softer than its competitors for the same level of responsiveness. All else being equal, this is the economy car I’d want to drive every day.” 

The 2026 Impreza RS features an 11.6-inch Starlink-based infotainment touchscreen, along with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology and its associated features. The hatchback area is quite generous with 20.4 cubic feet of space, which can be expanded to 56.0 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. 

The sporty upgrade gets you specific RS interior trim and a set of 18-inch dark gray finished alloy wheels. The Drive noted that “the RS delights with its on-rails handling.” 

If you compare it with other compact hatchbacks, the 2026 Impreza RS is definitely worth considering. It offers a sporty, spunky style that gets better with the power, traction, and efficiency mix that puts smiles on faces, and it is just right for life here in South Idaho.
