How Subaru Redesigned the 2024 Impreza

The Impreza name dates back to 1994 in North America, but the model’s ancestry dates back to the Leone, DL-10, and pretty much the first models brought here by Subaru of America. For Impreza’s 30th birthday, Subaru gave it a complete redesign, which is anticipated to be in our Twin Falls Subaru showroom in Spring 2023.
Hatchback Utility and the Return of the RS
Perhaps the biggest news for the 2024 Impreza is that all models will have the hatchback body style. The base and Sport trim levels remain for 2024, while the Premium is retired to make room for the return of the RS at the top of the model line. It will be equipped with the 2.5-liter engine found on the Crosstrek. The RS will also feature exclusive dark gray finish 18-inch wheels, a black front grille, side spoilers, side mirrors, upgraded LED headlights, and LED fog lights. The RS will be available with a 10-speaker Harman Kardon® audio system,10-way power front driver seat with lumbar support, and a power moonroof.
Engine and Chassis Enhancements
Base and Sport trims carry over with the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection boxer engine producing 152-hp and 145 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.5-liter boxer in the RS produces 182 hp and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2024 Impreza models come standard with the Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). This means the little-ordered manual transmission has been dropped from the lineup though 3-pedal fans will still have a stick on the upcoming WRX. Sport and RS trim owners can run up and down eight designated ratios on the CVT using steering-wheel paddle shifters.
The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system continues to be standard on all Impreza models, and the system has been enhanced with a revised multi-disc center coupling and standard Active Torque Vectoring. The changes result in faster response time, more agile handling, and better cornering ratios. The steering system is essentially a modified version of the WRX’s dual-pinion design for a more direct and natural steering feel with greater responsiveness.
New Design, Familiar Proportions
The 2024 model is immediately recognizable as an Impreza, with the most noticeable differences in the front are the larger grille and the sleeker swept-back LED headlights. At first glance, the profile appears similar to the current model, though a closer look reveals smoother contours along the front and rear fenders. Smoother surfacing in the rear are also punctuated by C-shape tail lights, such as those on the Outback. Beneath the surface, there is greater use of high-strength steel for both better crash test protection and increased body rigidity for more precise ride and handling tuning.
Impreza’s interior will look familiar as well even as most everything has changed for better visual flow. Its biggest change in all senses of the word is the SUBARU STARLINK® 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system on Sport and RS models. Accompanying the screen is the convenience of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you no longer have to reach for your phone to integrate it with the touchscreen. Low and permanently present on the screen are controls for the standard dual-zone automatic climate system which can now focus on occupied seats for improved comfort.
EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is standard on all 2024 Imprezas and has been enhanced to operate smoother, faster, and under a greater range of conditions. Improvements include a camera with a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster. The system can now more quickly identify bicycles and pedestrians at intersections, alert the driver and apply the brakes to help avoid a collision if necessary. Models equipped with Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Keep Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert also include Automatic Emergency Steering, which works with EyeSight and Blind-Spot Detection to assist with the steering to help avoid a collision at speeds less than 50 mph.
Available will be the SUBARU STARLINK™ Safety and Security Connected Services offering several features such as SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Maintenance Notifications, Monthly Vehicle Health Report and Diagnostic Alerts, Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service, and Vehicle Security Alarm Notification. Other available convenience features include Remote Lock/Unlock, Remote Horn and Lights, and Remote Vehicle Locator.
