Subaru HomeLink - How To Set Up

When looking at the long list of vehicle features on your Subaru, it is easy to overlook HomeLink, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the term. However, if you have an applicable situation, HomeLink can be one of your most appreciated features. Twin Falls Subaru wants you to know what HomeLink does and you to set it up in your Subaru.

What is HomeLink?

HomeLink is a built-in programmable remote control for garage door openers, fenced community or apartment complex gates, and other remote devices. With HomeLink, you can rid your Subaru of mobile remotes in console compartments. You won’t have to fish around for one and never worry about replacing its battery. Simply approach the garage or gate, push the fixed button on your Subaru, and it activates. HomeLink-equipped Subarus will have controls for three such remote devices.

Setting up the System

Setting up the HomeLink system in your new Subaru is a simple process, and it should only take a few minutes. You will need:

  • Your current garage or gate opener
  • Have your Subaru within range of said garage or gate

Once in place, proceed with the following:

  1. Press and release the HomeLink button you would like to program. The indicator light will begin flashing orange.
  2. Before pressing and holding the remote button, hold the remote within one or two inches of your Subaru HomeLink system.
  3. Continue holding the remote button until the HomeLink indicator light turns solid green. If it flashes quickly, skip to step 5.
  4. Release both buttons, then press the HomeLink button once to confirm that it will activate the gate or garage door. Your HomeLink is now paired, and the setup is complete.
  5. Some garage door openers use a rotating frequency system. If that applies to your opener, you will need to take these additional steps:
Enter your garage and locate the garage door opener. Once located, press the LEARN or SMART button on the back of the device.
  6. Return to your Subaru within 30 seconds, then press your designated HomeLink button and hold for two seconds. Repeat this button press & hold three times.
  7. The garage door opener should be paired and opened with both your remote and the HomeLink system.

Once activated correctly, you should never have to repeat this pairing process unless the opener or gate requires a reset. In which case, simply repeat the above steps.

HomeLink is a simple, low-key feature, but you will appreciate it every time you use it. If you encounter any trouble pairing with your garage or gate system, contact one of our Twin Falls Subaru sales or service professionals for instruction.
