NFL Star Is Still Driving His Used Subaru After Signing $60M Contract
When you’re a professional football player, you will be showered with money, perks, fame, and fans. A lot of football players will spend it to show their newfound wealth. One of the first significant purchases some rookies make is a brand-new, fancy car.
One such professional football player has stayed true to himself. He happens to play for the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills – wide receiver Khalil Shakir. The wideout just signed a $60.2 million contract extension with $32 million guaranteed.
You would think an NFL wide receiver on a very successful team would splurge on multiple supercars and other finer things. Not exactly. Shakir actually drives a white 2021 Subaru. Yes, a Subaru.
According to The Drive website, Shakir “doesn’t seem in too much of a rush to replace it.”
In the article in The Drive, Shakir said in the press conference announcing his contract extension, “I’m gonna put myself on blast here a little bit, but I drive a Subaru. The guys always make fun of me for what I drive.”
Shakir continued saying, “I don’t really splurge much; that’s not really what I like to do. But, yeah, I’ll probably go get a new car, but it’s not going to be anything crazy.” He said, “I actually don’t think I want to get rid of it. Maybe just drive something else in here every now and then just so [teammate Curtis Samuel] sees and he doesn’t make any more jokes.”
Shakir is happy with his 2021 Subaru, and he is not alone. A couple of NFL players were reported to drive very modest vehicles, and even other professional athletes drive vehicles similar to Shakir’s.
It is not just professional athletes. Award-winning movie star Nicole Kidman was reported to drive a Subaru Outback. Other people from the entertainment business also drive vehicles that do not show their wealth. High-ranking executives, too.
Why Subaru? Simple—they are dependable, safe, and comfortable. Most of our models offer standard Symmetrical all-wheel drive, EyeSight Driver Assistance Technology, and a host of great features designed to take you anywhere you want to go.
The message here is that a Subaru is for everyone. Given the recent awards the brand has received for reliability, dependability, and safety, it is truly a vehicle anyone would be proud to own. It is a vehicle they can trust—even a leading wide receiver in the NFL.
