Slashgear Says Outback has Luxury Features, Minus the Premium Price Tag

The 2025 Subaru Outback is available in nine distinctive trim levels and two engine choices. With this kind of selection for one of Subaru’s iconic models, you are excused to spoil yourself by choosing the highest trim level—without breaking the bank.  

SlashGear found this out with its review of the 2025 Outback Touring XT, the top-of-the-line trim for Subaru’s popular SUV. It is powered by the turbocharged 2.4-liter BOXER four-cylinder engine and offers the highest level of standard features of any Outback to date.  

It is a proper top-of-the-line model. Furthermore, SlashGear argued that the Outback Touring XT is more of a luxury vehicle. The editor said that it is “the brand’s best interpretation of a luxury car. It has Nappa-leather heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a Harmon Kardon sound system.” He continued to state that “on a realistic level, the very appearance of leather and premium audio would make this a bona-fide luxury car.”

On top of the 260-horsepower turbocharged BOXER engine, you get standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive that manages traction in any condition. SlashGear called the turbocharged AWD driveline a “monster,” stating that “it rolled through snow banks and poorly prepared roads like it was nothing, and not once did I feel the weather gain an upper hand.” In all, it was “a dream to drive in inclement weather.” 

The Outback Touring XT also comes with X-Mode, which gives you more traction management through the Vehicle Dynamics Control system. There is a Deep Snow/Mud mode, ensuring that all four wheels provide traction through these tough conditions.  

While you coddle yourself in the Outback Touring XT’s Nappa leather seats, let the 12-speaker Harmon Kardon Premium Sound System pipe in your favorite tunes—or favorite news program—throughout the cabin. The 11.6-inch STARLINK Multimedia Navigation touchscreen is your hub for everything, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. You also get 4G LTE Wi-Fi capability as another connection point for your Outback.  

More importantly, the Outback Touring XT is one of the safest vehicles in its class. EyeSight Driver Assist technology is standard on all Outbacks. However, you get the DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System standard on the Touring XT. Along with a host of driver assistance features, the Outback is a proven vehicle when it comes to protecting you from harm on the road. Based on crash tests results, it recently earned a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. 

In summary, SlashGear praised the 2025 Outback Touring XT for “the extra power under the hood and the presence of some luxury items in the cockpit [that] made the ride a lot more enjoyable and…a lot of fun.” You get all of this at a great price.
