Subaru Announces New 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid
Hybrid powertrains tend to make a lot of sense for modern car shoppers, as they still benefit from having the ability to be filled with gas while being aided by an electric motor. This leads to excellent fuel economy in the city and around town and rather impressive highway economy, too. Subaru is now back in the hybrid game with the all-new 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid, which is sure to be the best Crosstrek yet for some buyers.

An All-New Hybrid System
The Subaru Crosstrek had a hybrid model from 2013 until 2016 and then a plug-in version from 2019 to 2023. The 2026 model is powered by a high capacity, sealed lithium-ion 1.1-kWh battery that is part of the next-generation Subaru series-parallel hybrid system and works with the base 2.5-liter BOXER engine paired with a Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The combined horsepower output is 194 horsepower. Subaru says the Crosstrek Hybrid does not stray away from the off-road prowess and usability that owners love about their Crosstreks.

Still Off-Road Capable, even with a Hybrid Powertrain
Like every other Subaru model, save for the BRZ, the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive along with the advanced X-MODE® that allows drivers to take control and tell the Crosstrek what type of surface the vehicle is traveling on. Coupled with Hill Descent Control and 8.7 inches of standard ground clearance, the Crosstrek Hybrid does not skimp on its capabilities.
Fuel Economy Guesstimate
Subaru has not given any indication of what the fuel economy will be on the new hybrid Crosstrek. However, since the standard Crosstrek already gets great fuel mileage with 27 mpg (city) and 34 mpg (highway), expect the hybrid to get closer to 35 mpg in the city and a similar 34-36 mpg on the highway. The Crosstrek currently achieves 29 mpg combined, so it’s safe to say the hybrid will be around 35 mpg combined.
Interior Tech Features
One of the things we do know is that the Crosstrek Hybrid will be available with the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that will display the vehicle’s navigation, including Apple Maps. The popular 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus infotainment touchscreen will also find its way into the hybrid for customers to enjoy, with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Some of the Best Safety Technology Around
Like all other Subaru vehicles, the Crosstrek Hybrid will come standard with the legendary and award-winning Subaru EyeSight® advanced driver assistance technology that includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Reverse Automatic Braking and Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Emergency Stop Assist, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, and more.

When Will We Know More?
More information will be released by Subaru closer to when the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid goes on sale in the fall of this year, which will include pricing, standard and optional equipment, and fuel economy ratings from the EPA.
