The 2025 Subaru Forester or The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Our 2025 Subaru Forester is one of the most popular vehicles we offer. It has the room you need, with a taller cargo space than most vehicles in its class. Plus, it has all the capability you want when driving through all conditions and terrain across Southern Idaho. 

We think that our 2025 Subaru Forester is the best choice for a compact SUV. However, some people believe that the Volkswagen Tiguan is also a good choice. We compared both vehicles to see which one is a better choice. 

For starters, one should really look at the more practical things. Volkswagen claims that its Tiguan has a larger cargo space than the Forester. However, the Forester’s space is taller, with a longer roofline, a flatter liftgate shape, and a larger rear glass area. This is helpful for not only carrying taller items inside the Forester but also for having a more “open” space for pets. 

A sloping roofline at the back is not pet-friendly. Even the smallest dogs feel claustrophobic when they ride in the rear of the vehicle. The advantage of the Forester’s rear cargo area, with the longer roofline and larger glass area, is that it is ideal for pets to feel comfortable back there.

Also, the Forester has more passenger volume than the Tiguan with the sunroof above their heads. This is augmented by more comfortable seats that yield less fatigue over longer drives. The Forester also offers a larger 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment screen that features multiple connections and options. That includes wireless smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. 

What happens during a snowstorm, which often occurs in our area? In the Tiguan, you only have a few drive modes to choose from. You have the same on the Forester, but if you go to the top of the Starlink infotainment screen, you can select from three additional X-Mode settings. You can not only choose to get traction in the Snow during our winters but there is also the option of a more aggressive setting for Deep Snow and Mud when things get a little more bogged down. 

We should never forget that Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system is standard on all 2025 Forester models. A signature feature that separates a Subaru from everyone else. Not to mention that the Forester has a greater ground clearance than the Tiguan at 8.7 inches.
