The 2026 Subaru Solterra EV arrives with a new look, a larger battery, and more performance. Our electric SUV also stays true to its mission with a dual-motor driveline that includes our Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and one of the best ground clearances in its class at 8.3 inches.

What has the automotive press said about our improved Solterra EV?

First, we should review what’s new about our electric SUV. The battery pack has been increased to 74.7-kilowatt-hours. The larger battery yields improvements in range. You can now recharge your 2026 Solterra EV at an increasing number of charging stations across the country. The new standard NACS port adds another 15,000 stations alone. However, you can still charge at your home level 2 charger and public DC Fast Charging stations with CCS ports with an adapter from us.

There is also an improvement on the standard dual-motor performance level, now increased to 233 horsepower. The same driveline can yield an estimated 288 miles of range at a full state of charge. In addition, there is a more powerful dual-motor driveline called the XT. Power from this driveline increases to 338 horsepower. This can return a quicker 0-60 MPH sprint of under five seconds, while putting more power down for more adventurous drives up in the mountains or out on the town. As Autoweek reports, “[f]rom a standing start, with the accelerator stuffed to the floor, the car hustles quickly to highway speeds without any drama.”

The Solterra EV’s interior has been updated to include a new 14-inch infotainment screen. Gear Junkie calls it “pleasant,” while U.S. News and World Report adds that “managing your climate functions is intuitive and should become second nature with time.”

It is not a Subaru if it does not go off the highway into the woods. U.S. News and World Report found that the Solterra “excels in keeping you going, even if one or two wheels have little or no traction. Its X-Mode, which features Grip Control and hill-descent control, which can get you out of jams at the push of a button.”

The common theme seen on all reviews of the 2026 Solterra EV has been its “evolution” as an electric SUV. The Gear Junkie website concludes by pointing out that “Subaru built a pleasant, efficient vehicle that can reach the vast majority of outdoor destinations, even in bad weather. For people living in the urban jungle, but playing in the great outdoors, it should be high on the list.”
