​​Which One Would You Choose? The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek or Forester​ 

Sometimes, you are presented with so many choices. You may have come to our dealership looking at a specific model. Then, in the corner of your eye, is another vehicle from our lineup that will do the same or better than you expect. That’s the beauty of Subaru. You may find yourself looking at almost every vehicle in our lineup and have to decide between two or more of them to take home. 

Autoblog created the same scenario for you when presented with two Subaru models – the 2026 Crosstrek and the 2026 Forester. 

Despite their size difference and design, there are many similarities between these two. Both are built on the Subaru Global Platform, powered by a 2.5-liter BOXER four-cylinder engine – or the new Hybrid driveline – with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, and a long list of features across selected trim levels.  

However, Autoblog pointed out some differences between the two. The 2026 Crosstrek is “smaller and lighter” in every dimension, except for the wheelbase, which is exactly the same at 105.1 inches. They did point out that “the Crosstrek will be easier to maneuver in city driving or tight parking garages.”  

According to Autoblog, another advantage the 2026 Crosstrek has is that it is “quicker and more efficient.” They cited that “the Crosstrek feels a bit perkier, given it has less weight to lug around.” When it comes to the Hybrid models, Autoblog added that “combined, the system produces 194 hp and can achieve 36 mpg combined in the Crosstrek and 35 mpg combined in the Forester.” 

On the 2026 Forester side of the ledger, it has “more features.” For example, Autoblog explained that “you can get ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, a driver’s memory system for the seat/mirrors, and genuine leather upholstery.” Furthermore, “most Forester trims get a power panoramic moonroof.” 

Then, there’s the question of space, where Autoblog points out that the 2026 Forester has more of it. They explain that the 2026 Forester “got 110.8 cubic feet of passenger volume as opposed to a maximum of 100.5 cubic feet in the Crosstrek.” Second-row seating was also cited with the Forester’s “39.4 inches of rear legroom to the Crosstrek’s 36.5. Shoulder room is also in favor of the Forester, although the Crosstrek surprisingly has a little more rear headroom.” 

Cargo space is also a factor that customers consider when choosing the right Subaru. Autoblog said that the 2026 Forester “measures 29.6 cubic feet behind the second row and up to 74.4 cubic feet with the back seats folded; the Crosstrek’s figures are up to 20/54.9 cubic feet, respectively, so the Forester has a lot more space for luggage.” 

Lastly, Autoblog states that the 2026 Crosstrek is “more affordable.” They offer a high level of value across both lineups. However, you can still get great deals on both models.
