Subaru to Announce 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness at New York Auto Show
Not long ago, Subaru revealed the 2024 Crosstrek at the Chicago Auto Show. Needless to say, this grand unveiling turned a ton of heads, as the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek truly looks to be the best one yet. While this was a major announcement at the time, the automaker has downright outdone itself in the lead-up to the New York International Auto Show, which begins on Friday, April 7, 2023. According to a recent post on social media, it seems that Subaru may be set to announce an all-new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness at the New York International Auto Show! While the manufacturer has yet to confirm which vehicle will receive a Wilderness badge, we have some strong evidence that suggests the 2024 Crosstrek will be the chosen one. As always, we have everything you need to know, so keep on reading below!

Features and Accessories of a Subaru Wilderness Vehicle
Before we dig into all the details of this potential announcement, let’s take a moment to learn more about the Wilderness trim level. More specifically, what are all the features and accessories of a Subaru Wilderness vehicle, and how are they different from their siblings? Well, first things first, as the name suggests, Wilderness models are built with adventure in mind. As a matter of fact, Subaru said it best: “Every Wilderness model is specifically engineered for off-road exploring with upgrades to its ground clearance, drivetrain, and all-terrain capabilities, along with rugged exterior styling and a high-tech cabin that’s as comfortable as it is practical.” In a nutshell, the Wilderness models are the toughest, strongest, and most capable vehicles on the entire Subaru lineup. Moreover, this becomes evident when you take a closer look at all those specialty features, accessories, etc.
Included with a Wilderness model, one will find the following features: Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, all-terrain tires, redesigned bumpers, a re-tuned suspension, revised gear ratios, Enhanced dual-function X-MODE, water-resistant StarTex upholstery, upgraded roof rails, nine or more inches of ground clearance, and a front skid plate. As for added accessories, every Wilderness vehicle comes with black exterior trim with Anodized Copper finish accents, matte black alloy wheels, exterior cladding, a glare-reducing hood decal, LED interior and cargo-area lighting, exclusively available Geyser Blue exterior paint, and, of course, the aforementioned Wilderness badging on the interior and exterior. Suffice it to say, if the 2024 Crosstrek receives a Wilderness trim level, then it will truly be ready for anything.

Will the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Receive a Wilderness Badge?
So, without further ado, will the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek receive a Wilderness badge? Let’s begin by taking a look at the facts. Subaru of America recently posted the image below on their social media accounts with the following message: “There’s an all-new member of the Subaru Wilderness family out there, and it’s heading to the New York International Auto Show. With all-terrain upgrades, rugged style, and trusted safety, Subaru Wilderness vehicles bring the legendary capability of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive to a whole new frontier of adventure, and we’ll be streaming the reveal live from the auto show.”
Now, this doesn’t state that the Crosstrek will be the chosen one. However, our team at Twin Falls Subaru believes that the 2024 Crosstrek would be the best bet. While it could certainly be several Subaru vehicles, the process of elimination definitely narrows the scope a bit. First, we know it won’t be the Forester or Outback, as they have already earned their Wilderness badges. Next, we don’t foresee any of the following models receiving a Wilderness edition: WRX, Legacy, Impreza, or BRZ. This leaves us with three possibilities, the Ascent, Solterra, and Crosstrek.

While the Ascent has certainly ascended the ranks of its segment, the three-row SUV is just a little too bulky for the off-roading capabilities that come with a Wilderness badge. Similarly, the all-electric Solterra isn’t the ideal vehicle for unplugging in the great outdoors. That leaves us with the Crosstrek. Out of these three, the Crosstrek is simply the best candidate for an off-road, out-of-this-world experience. What’s more, there are several reasons as to why Subaru would want to focus even more of its attention on this well-established model.
First of all, the smaller size of the Crosstrek gives it a sporty advantage over its siblings. Meaning, with a Wilderness customization, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek could be an incredible off-road vehicle. And, bear in mind, off-road capability is one of the cornerstones of the Wilderness trim level. Next, at the Chicago Auto Show, Subaru announced that the 2024 Crosstrek is an all-new model, marking the next generation of the fan-favorite vehicle. That said, this would be a perfect time to add a Wilderness trim level. And, last but not least, the Crosstrek was the automaker’s best-selling vehicle in 2022. Suffice it to say, it simply has to be the Crosstrek!
